Primitive or Progressive Pt. 2
Again a word on 'progressives.'
In the last several years the moniker Liberal has been substituted with Progressive. Let's be honest, Progressive just sounds better. Progressive implies advanced, enlightened and broad-minded. Our current administration and congress is dominated by progressives (liberals). Their worldview is certainly different than mine. I'm not a Republican, but I certainly am conservative (in light of the most recent DHS report I'd probably be labeled a right-wing extremest).
Progressives desire change. That's the mantra of our day. The change they seek would be to them 'progress', but I'm not at all convinced that it is the kind of change that I can (1) believe in or (2) get behind.
I was watching the CBS News Show "60 Minutes" this evening, they had a segment on Bull Fighters in Spain. At one point the Anchor, speaking about Madrid, said,
Oh wait, that's not very progressive of me.

Many parts of Madrid take you back many centuries. But don't be fooled - Spain is one of the most modern and progressive counties in Europe. Half the cabinet are women, including the defence minister. There is gay marriage, quickie divorces, legalised abortion, and there is the ancient blood sport of bullfighting. How do you put that all together? It’s not easy.60 Minutes is absolutely a Progressive (liberal) news show... and their definition of Spain's Progressiveness hit me like a 2x4 in the head. What is it that sets Spain apart as Progressive among the EU nations? Gay marriage, quickie divorces and legalised abortion. If that is the criteria for progressive then would I be wrong to say that progressive = immoral.
Oh wait, that's not very progressive of me.

Interesting article, thanks for the post.
Actually, when it comes down to it, progressive, by itself, means very little. It is an adjective, which describes something else. Calling someone progressive is like calling them "very." It begs the question, "Very what?"
Progressive implies the progression of something. It is a trick for people to think they either need to get on the band wagon of some foolish ideology or not be progressive. We are all progressive; we are all progressing something, we all favor the progress of certain things, but being progressive isn't a compliment.
C.W. Lewis has the same bone to pick with the word "gentleman." Gentleman is a word that used to actually mean something, but now it basically means nothing more than a good guy. It's a compliment. As soon as it becomes a compliment, and loses it's actual meaning, the whole word is meaningless, because what does it mean to be a good guy? Different people have different ideas of what it means to be good, so to call someone good, or to call them a gentleman, means very little at the end of the day, because it depends on what you mean by it. The same thing goes with progressive. It has no meaning by itself; it is just another trick by the media to make you feel like you are out of the circle if you do not follow what they say.
They have no understanding of the true meaning of the word... the proper word would be
DEGRESSIVE:
adjective
1. going down by steps
2. (of taxes) gradually decreasing in rate on sums below a certain amount
I like the way it is put in Holy Scripture.. Romans 1:18-22
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown [it] to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible [attributes] are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
because, although they knew God, they did not glorify [Him] as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools."
My opinions, like other's, mean nothing if they are not based in the truth. Truth is, CHRIST is coming again and HE will righteously judge the living and the dead. I can hardly wait!
This seems to be yet another word to "sugar up" immorality to give a positive spin to sin. We don't refer to abortion as "killing babies" - we spin it as "removing a product of conception." We don't call it adultery - we spin it as "an affair." We don't call it homosexuality - we spin it being "gay." And this list goes on.
